What is Form 1065?

Form 1065 is what a large partnership files with the IRS stating its profits, losses, deductions, and credits, as well as its partners' shares of the same. Form 1065-B may be used in rare circumstances to pay taxes, most partnerships do not pay taxes directly and the tax liability is passed through to each partner.

So, who is required to submit Form 1065?  That’s a question that demands a firm and certain answer.  Companies that may be required to file Form 1065 include general partnerships, limited partnerships, and limited liability companies.  There are things that you should know about this required document.

Is the Next Year the Big Year?

Have you determined that 2018 will be the final year that you work full-time?  If so, this upcoming fourth quarter would be a perfect time to plan for it.  Health of course is an issue, but just as important to a stress-free retirement is and will continue to be your financial situation.  So, why not prepare now…even if you are two years away?

Maybe you have thought ahead by stashing available dollars in a 401(k) or an IRA.  What happens when you start distributing this cash?  Have you carefully planned for the tax ramifications?  Prudent planning can reduce those effects.  Perhaps a strategy known as “discounted retirement” is right for you.

Paying Corporate Taxes Late is No Joke.

The IRS is not known for its sense of humor.  Quite the opposite, they always demand their share whether it is now or later.  This is especially true with corporate taxes.  If you own a business the tax deadlines may be quite different than your personal taxes and you probably need a professional CPA to handle that for you.

Here are a few facts that you need to know –

1.  A failure-to-file penalty may apply if you did not file by the tax filing deadline.
2.  The failure-to-file penalty is generally more than the failure-to-pay penalty.
3.  That penalty starts accruing the day after the tax filing due date.
4.  If you requested an extension in a timely manner, you may not face a penalty.

All of these facts, and much more are a part and parcel of the daily routine of Michael Mathews.  He is a Las Vegas CPA and accountant who knows the ins and outs of what the IRS requests and expects from business owners in the Valley.  Make an appointment at his 2620 Regatta Dr. Suite 102 office by calling (702) 240-5237.
