Have you got a Minute for a Necessary Evil?

That does not sound like a lot of fun at holiday time, but those who begin gathering their financial records for 2017 now will rest more comfortably as March and April of 2018 approach.  We reference those two months because that is when tax returns must be submitted to the IRS.  It is March 15th for corporations and April 16th next year for individuals.

If you are a small business owner it is entirely possible that your record-keeping leaves something to be desired.  Who wants to rush around in January and February putting all of the paperwork together?  Why not get a head-start on the task?  That sounds like a plan!  This is a New Year’s resolution that you can put into play now.

Las Vegas CPA Mike Mathews can also prepare financial statement compilations and reviews for your business.  And…while he is at it, he can also prepare compiled and reviewed personal financial statements for individuals.  When you are ready, Mike Mathews is at 2620 Regatta Drive in the Northwest.  Make your 2018 appointment now by calling (702) 240-5237.

It’s Tax Time!

Whoa, wait a minute here.  It is only mid-November tax time is not until April 15th or thereabouts…right.  Not necessarily!  There are tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and trusts.  What category do you fall into?  Maybe it is more than one of those.

One thing is certain, the earlier that you gather your records together and prepare to have a top CPA roll up his sleeves and go to work for you the better.  Americans are notorious for procrastinating as it pertains to tax preparation.  Somehow, we think that the task will be postponed if we keep putting it off.  Then we find ourselves scrambling at the deadline!

Why would you put yourself through that AGAIN in 2018?  Now is a great time to reach out to Mike Mathews to make an appointment as early as possible in the new year.  Get that resolution out of the way now.  Call personal and business Las Vegas area CPA Mike Mathews for an appointment at his beautiful Regatta Drive office (702) 240-5237.

Financial Planning for Your Business.

As the end of the year approaches you and your partners may have bigger plans for your business in 2018.  In business, plans equal capital.  With enough working capital, you can conquer the world.  If you look at the world’s biggest moguls none of them could have attained their success without a “hand up”.

The first step in the process is preparing a financial statement so that those with the cash are attracted to your business.  Without that, you might as well hold up a sign on the street corner!  A properly prepared financial statement of your business compiles and reviews the state of your company for investment purposes.

Now, you need to find the right CPA to “crunch the numbers” so that your business is irresistible to those with money to lend.  Mike Mathews is the answer.  From his beautiful office on Regatta Drive, Mike will plan your business’ financial statement and prepare it for presentation to banks, etc.  Call Mike before the end of 2017 at (702) 240-5237.

Retirement Plans for 2018.

Maybe the new year is your big year for finally enjoying the fruits of your labor.  The new year is just weeks away and retirement may be on your mind.  It’s one thing to look forward to enjoying travel leisure.  It is another thing entirely to be financially able to do all of that unless you have stowed away millions for this exciting time of your life.

While you were accumulating a lifetime of wealth taxes were always in the back of your mind.  That WILL NOT change during retirement!  Taxes obviously must be paid on distributions from qualified retirement plans.  These plans include 401K’s, IRA’s, etc.  It takes careful planning to manage excess taxation when your income ceases.

There is even something called “discounted retirement”.  You might want to talk to a professional to get more information on this option.  Las Vegas area financial retirement expert Mike Mathews may be the answer to all of your retirement planning questions.  Why not make an appointment this fall at his beautiful Regatta Drive office by calling (702) 240-5237?

It’s the Fourth Quarter and the Clock is Ticking.

It sounds like a prelude to a story about the upcoming NBA season doesn’t it?  This headline, however refers to the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2017.  What does it mean to you?  If you are a business owner it means a great deal because it is time to prepare for a potential year-end audit.  Yikes!!!

Here are some steps to follow –

1.  Put a to-do list together NOW.
2.  Gather all of your correct bank information.
3.  Make sure that your trial balance and your accountants match up.
4.  Ask auditors for a list of “test” questions that may help you in the preparation process.

It is essential that you do not undertake this process alone.  Unless you are a licensed CPA you need a professional who has guided business owners through hundreds of audits.  Your answer may well be Las Vegas CPA Mike Mathews.  His knowledge is vital at a time like this and you will enjoy meeting with him at his Regatta Drive location in the Northwest.  Don’t wait until the last minute.  Call Mike Mathews today at (702) 240-5237.

Choosing a New CPA.

This choice is as important as choosing the right family physician or the correct auto mechanic.  Your CPA has to be accurate and responsive to your needs.  There is simply NO margin for error!  Perhaps you are like most and are a Las Vegas transplant or you are just looking for someone in the Valley who can do a better job.

It would seem that the first thing you should seek is someone who provides a large variety of accounting services.  Let’s find someone who has dealt with business both large and small and also has done accounting for high net-worth individuals.  It would be nice if they had human communication skills (some accountants do not!)

The complete package of individual and corporate accounting services may well be located in the Lakes in the Northwest corridor of Las Vegas.  His name is Mike Mathews.  Do a little research and visit www.accountant-lasvegas.com.  Sit down with Mike for a free consultation at 2620 Regatta Drive Suite 102 and get to know him.  Call for an appointment at (702) 240-5237.

Need Some Extra Dough?

Who doesn’t?  A little extra money always comes in handy.  For a business it may be the difference between profitability and potential failure.  Business owners and building contractors are often looking for an edge.  When push comes to shove, that final decision will often depend on what your accountant has done for you.

A great accountant is able to prepare a personal or business financial statement.  A well-crafted financial statement can make all the difference when you go to apply for a business loan.  If you are a contractor in Southern Nevada it could give you a leg up on the competition when you apply for a bid limit increase.

The stakes are high and the payoff is huge.  Imagine landing that big construction job because you hired the right accountant to do the grunt work!  The right choice may well be Mike Mathews.  He is a Las Vegas and Henderson area financial statement preparer.  Call Mike at this critical time and make an appointment at his Northwest Vegas office (702) 240-5237.

Accounting is Not a DIY Job.

To paraphrase an old term - an individual who has himself as an accountant has a fool for a client.  Just as in the courtroom the penalty for amateurism may be severe.  For some reason, the IRS just doesn’t have a very good sense of humor!  How your accounting is prepared and submitted is critical to your business and your life.

The truth is, hiring the right accountant may be as important as the right lawyer, surgeon, or auto mechanic.  They can all save you a great deal of grief.  You want someone who dreams numbers.  If they have a degree in accounting that would be preferable.  Experience is also important in making your choice.

Great news Las Vegas!  You have Mike Mathews.  He is a certified public accountant with many years of experience.  Mike has an office located on beautiful Regatta Drive in The Lakes and serves all of the Vegas/Henderson area.  I know it’s August, but you will want to get to know Mike Mathews for your next personal and/or business taxes.  So call him at (702) 240-5237.

Don’t Forget the Quarterlies.

As we have written before, taxes for business owners are anything BUT April 15th once per year.  There is this little matter of quarterlies and if you don’t stay on top of it the IRS will be sending you a big, fat bill with a penalty.  Tax due dates for business men and women were established many moons ago.  It is up to you to stay compliant!

Keep these dates in mind…June 15, September 15, and January 15, 2018.  These are your next three quarterly business tax due dates.  As you read this, you may be slightly late on that first one, but there is time to catch up.  Do you do the plumbing at your business?  Do you repair electrical problems?  Then, why would you do all of your own accounting?

You have a business because you offer products and/or services that others need.  Mike Mathews has an office located in Northwest Las Vegas because he is our area’s personal and business tax accountant.  Please take a few minutes and visit the website www.accountant-lasvegas.com then call him for all of your accounting needs at (702) 240-5237.

And You Thought Tax Day was April 15th.

That is what a large majority of Americans think.  Now, you have decided to become an entrepreneur.  It is time to be the boss and with that responsibility comes increased dates on the calendar when taxes are due.  Let’s focus on sole-proprietors and business owners who are not responsible for payroll tax.

In the first month of the new year all of your contractors need forms called 1099’s so that they can file THEIR taxes.  S-Corp tax returns are due on March 15th NOT April 15th.  By the way, Uncle Sam still wants to see your personal tax return by the 15th of April.  Then there are quarterly estimated taxes along the way.

Do you have the time and expertise to do all of this yourself?  Do you trust your brother-in-law to do it?  Why wouldn’t you put this task in the hands of an experienced Las Vegas business tax preparer like Mike Mathews.  He will navigate you through every date on the tax calendar.  Call Mike for an appointment at his scenic Regatta Drive office in the Northwest at (702) 240-5237.

Working with Billionaires.

If you could work with someone who worked with a company or persons who had a net worth of billions of dollars would you?  I don’t know about you, but that would make me feel rather secure.  If you could trust this individual with your financial statements then I think you would be rather safe in their hands!

Mike Mathews who is a CPA in Las Vegas Nevada once prepared the tax returns for high net worth individuals.  Later, he worked in the corporate finance department of a multi-billion dollar New York Stock Exchange Company as its tax director.  How is that for a pedigree?  That sounds rather impressive!

At the turn of the 21st century Mike Mathews made an important personal decision.  He decided to set up his own accounting practice.  That was great news for those of us in Las Vegas.  Today he has an office in the Northwest on Regatta Drive.  For all of your personal and business needs Mike Mathews is there for your 12 months a year.  Call him today at (702) 240-5237.

Tax Season Never Ends.

Just because April 18th is well behind us doesn’t mean that you should put aside any thoughts of tax obligations going into 2018.  Tax season never really ends as it is a “pay as you go” system.  Just because that day of reckoning is not until next spring you need to always stay on top of taxes that are due during the course of the year.

Do you want to add that concern to your laundry list of “to-do’s”?  Who does?  Remember this, almost every small business owner must make estimated tax payments!  Penalties from Uncle Sam can, and probably will be assessed if those payments are late or inaccurate.  You need to understand the rules before making your “quarterlies”.

But wait, why should you wear the accountant’s hat when you have one of the best in the business right here in Vegas?  He is Mike Mathews.  Mike is a Las Vegas accountant proficient in quarterly tax preparation.  He will keep you on track throughout the year to make sure that there is no “sticker shock” next spring.  Call him for an appointment at his Regatta Drive office at (702) 240-5237.

I’m Building Something Here.

Las Vegas has an official state bird.  Contrary to the prevailing joke it is NOT the crane.  That has been the reference to our ever-continuing expansion.  There are contractors throughout the area that are bidding on future building projects that will shape the destiny of their companies.  If you are a contractor in Las Vegas you must be competitive!

To do that you have to increase your ability to submit a bid that gets the job.  Therefore, financial statements become paramount to the future success of your company.  The company that has a ceiling of, say a million dollars will lose a big job to a competitor that has a ceiling of 3 million.  It is just simple math!

To prepare a proper financial statement you need a professional accountant.  Just such a person is right here in Las Vegas.  His name is Mike Mathews.  Mike is the right choice to help you up the ante and win that next bid.  Call your Las Vegas area professional financial statement preparer today…Mike Mathews at (702) 240-5237.

Is This Your Last Year?

Yikes…we don’t mean it that way!  Is this the year, the big 2017 when you finally decide that enough is enough?  You have worked hard and successfully for all of those decades and now you have earned the right to retire.  It is time to enjoy the fruits of your labor and experience the great things that you never had time to do.

You may think that in addition to life being simpler that protecting your hard-earned lifetime income might be just as easy. Tax returns, for instance change dramatically when you go from work-mode to retirement-mode.  Initially, you may drop into a lower tax bracket only to be bumped up again when you are forced to draw from your retirement fund.

All of this, and much more should be sorted out by a professional.  That man in Las Vegas is Mike Mathews.  Mike is a seasoned retirement tax pro.  He will help you plan this important year and the even better ones to come so that you get to keep and distribute every dollar that you deserve.  Make an appointment at his beautiful Regatta Drive office by calling (702) 240-5237.

Plan Your Entity.

That sounds ominous doesn’t it?   Now that tax season is behind us you may have other pursuits that need the help of a quality CPA.  No, they don’t all go to Aruba on April 19th.  Your next venture may be forming a business.  When that time comes, you need to determine what type of business entity you will be.

I would imagine that you have heard the terms corporation, S corporation, partnership, and sole proprietorship.  These are some of the most popular business entities.  You may even decide to be a limited liability company instead of a corporation.  Now your head begins to spin, because it is important to fully understand the differences.

That is why you make it an absolute point to sit down with a licensed professional Certified Public Accountant.  One of the very best in Las Vegas is experienced CPA Mike Mathews.  Now that Uncle Sam has been taken care of until next year sit down with Mike and plan your business future.  Call him for an appointment at his Regatta Drive office (702) 240-5237.

It’s the Eleventh Hour!

It happens every year at this time.  Your tax return has to be postmarked by April 18th.  Yes, you lucked out because the 15th is on Saturday and there is Emancipation Day in Washington, DC on the 17th.  So, you have done it again.  You waited until the last minute and now you are wise enough to realize that you need a professional to help you file.

You could go to the IRS website, but be prepared for minutiae that you don’t have the time, knowledge, and certainly the experience to deal with.  There are dependents, mortgage interest, and other credits and deductions.  You had better do it right or possibly face a potential IRS audit down the road.

Why would you put yourself through that?  Make that eleventh hour phone call to Mike Mathews.  Mike will prepare your 2016 tax return with the thoroughness that comes from years of experience as a Northwest Las Vegas tax preparer.  Maybe HE is working 18 hours a day, but you don’t have to.  Call for an appointment right now at (702) 240-5237.

Filing Business Taxes on Time.

Corporation taxes have an earlier due date.  If you are a corporate shareholder who has not addressed this issue and you are reading this…YOU’RE LATE!  That’s right.  We have always been taught that April 15th is the tax filing deadline.  It is a date that floats around in our heads almost like a birthday or a holiday.

Corporation shareholders have a different set of rules for filing with the IRS.  In 2017 the deadline for filing a corporation tax return or extension was/is March 15th.  There are various types of business entities.  Among them are Sole Proprietorships, Partnerships, Estates & Trusts, Corporations, S-Corps, Real Estate Investment Trusts, etc.

Non-corporations have a filing date of April 17th (in 2017), but corporations have a deadline of March 15th.  So, get up to speed immediately.  It may not be too late to contact Mike Mathews.  Mike is a certified public accountant and business tax preparer in Las Vegas.  Don’t wait another minute!  Call Mike for an appointment at his Northwest Regatta Drive office in Las Vegas at (702) 240-5237.
